Abstract

Dengue fever, an endemic arbovirus in Brazil, continues to pose a significant challenge for health systems, especially for Emergency Departments, due to its seasonal periods of epidemics. The physiopathology of the disease involves a complex inflammatory process, which can worsen with increased capillary permeability, plasma extravasation and hemoconcentration. The point-of-care ultrasound can be a valuable tool, offering a number of advantages, with its high sensitivity to detect accumulations of fluid in different organs and cavities, including the gall bladder, in addition to its increasing availability and its low cost. This protocol was formed from an extensive integrative review on the topic, associated with the opinion of Brazilian experts on the subject, and aims to optimize patient care, providing an efficient and targeted approach to the evaluation and monitoring of complications in suspected or confirmed cases of dengue, in context of limited resources.
